Question From Our Fans: “How Do I Know My Sauce Is Still Good To Eat?”

How do I know if my hot sauce I bought a while ago is still safe to eat?

We get this question quite a bit, actually. Without recreating the wheel, here’s a bit about how to check the bottle of our hot sauce to make sure it’s still safe to eat, tasty and full goodness.

Every bottle of hot sauce or BBQ sauce we produce, whether it’s made directly by us or filled for us at a bottling facility, contains a code on the packaging that can be useful for tracking when the product was filled. These codes can look like a jumble of text and letters, or a simple 4-digit hand-written code.

Here are a few of our codes:

Signature Series Batch Code Example

In the first example, the BBQ bar code shows a date of May 04, 2020. This is the “Best Used By” date. This date typically is two (2) years after the bottle was filled. In the second example, like the BBQ bottle, the product shows a date of May 25, 2020. This is also the “Best Used By” date. This date is typically two (2) years after the bottle was filled.

In the third example, this is a hand-written batch code. Our signature series bottles will use hand-batch codes to indicate the batch, and the bottle number in the series, written as #-*** where # is the batch, and *** is the series number from 1 through 120. Check the product’s specific page on this website for the batch information to find when the product was produced and it’s suggested Best Used By date.

Other designations may include the letter “P” for Press, which was made with the batch, but excluded from the series as they are not for retail sale and are for review purpose only. Products with the designation of X are prototype or individual manufactured bottles not for resale, and are intended for testing or review purposes only.
